Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are words I don’t often use when talking about how I help my clients. But they might actually be the most important words of all, because I am so passionate about receiving and sharing hypnotherapy.
Why is that? Because I trained to be a master hypnotherapist and I know how much it’s helped me change my life.
In this article, I’m going to explore what hypnotherapy is and how I use it to help my clients achieve any goal they’ve set for themselves - including overcoming a fear of riding their horse.
What is hypnotherapy?
I like to describe hypnotherapy as a conversation with your subconscious or unconscious mind.
Your unconscious mind forms about 80% of your mind. It’s the part that controls your body in an automated way - it helps you to do things like blinking and breathing without having to think about it.
It’s also the part of your mind that you go to while you’re daydreaming. It feels like you’re a million miles away, but in fact you’re experiencing something called self-hypnosis, which takes you into your unconscious mind for a little while.
The remaining 20% of your mind is your conscious mind. That’s the bit where you make decisions like “I’m going to ride my horse today”.
Sometimes, when you make decisions like that in your conscious mind, alarm bells start to ring in your unconscious mind. If this happens, the unconscious mind starts to intervene, telling you: “Maybe you don’t need to do that today, you need to find an excuse. Maybe you need to do some cleaning. Maybe you need to go for a walk. Maybe there’s an urgent pile of other stuff to do”.
And this is what’s stopping you from making the progress you really want to make in getting back to riding your horse. By using hypnotherapy to have a conversation with your unconscious mind, you’re able to tell it that there’s nothing to worry about. You really do want to go and ride your horse!
The different levels of hypnotherapy
Another fascinating thing about hypnotherapy is that it can be used equally as effectively at different levels.
On one hand, hypnotherapy can be quite light and simply be used for relaxation and to help you sleep. On the other hand, you can choose to go quite deep and transform your mindset quite quickly.
With both you will feel completely relaxed and with deeper hypnotherapy you get even more, this is where you experience “trance” and where your transformation takes place
Those of you who drive have probably driven somewhere you go frequently, like to work or out shopping, and when you arrived thought to yourself “Oh my goodness, were the traffic lights red or green? I can’t remember”. That’s because you were in a state of trance.
Now you know, and I know, that you would only have gone through the traffic lights if they were on green. That’s because, even while you’re in trance, your unconscious mind knows to stop at a red traffic light, you are in total control. It’s really powerful.
Can hypnotherapy help everyone?
When you work with me, the first thing we do is to work out whether you want to experience hypnotherapy - and the decision is totally up to you because hypnotherapy isn’t for everyone.
That's right, hypnotherapy will only help people who want to make changes. They’ve made the decision that life cannot go on as it is, whether that’s not riding your horse, not hacking out, not getting out of bed, not doing anything, for all the excuses under the sun.
The reason it works for those people is because hypnotherapy is something I do with you. I don’t do it to you, and I can’t use it to make you do anything you wouldn’t want to do. However, I can help you make those changes by talking to your unconscious mind so that it delivers your goal.
Your conscious mind sets the goal, your unconscious mind gets the goal.
How hypnotherapy has changed my clients’ lives
Once you’ve made that decision and are ready to change, the deeper hypnotherapy is really powerful. Some of the ladies in my private client group are sharing with me the successes they’ve been having from deep hypnotherapy. It’s been incredible to hear about the life-changing experiences that took them from being scared of riding their horse to truly believing that they can do it, and doing it.
The effects of hypnotherapy usually extend far beyond the stables though. When you’re unconfident with riding, you tend to find that you’re unconfident in other areas of your life as well, and you’ll notice similarities. When you work with me, we work together to identify what those similarities are and then we work on everything, if you want
Not only do you get the results with your horse, you actually get your results in your life. It’s a life-changing transformation, and for me, hypnotherapy is a big part of that because it’s a very powerful and a very quick way to see results.
